January Goals
I didn't set out to post this 1/3 of the month through, but here we are.
Back tracking to last week's 2026 Goals, I've already decided to abandon the Amazon goal. The day after writing that one down, I went through my order history (not considering Brian's purchases) and didn't find much that I felt was a mindless purchase. I do hope we can reduce our Amazon spending and be more thoughtful of our purchases, but it wasn't as bad as I thought and I don't feel it warrants being one of my annual goals.
Also, we're one week into the year and we are making headway on my goal of removing things from our house. Some friends took the dining room table we had stored in our basement, and I hauled off four bags of baby items to another friend. I feel so much lighter already!
On the Calendar this Month:
1. A long weekend with an only child! Cam will be away at an overnight camp this weekend, so we are down to just one. I'm trying to think of some things we can do together or places to go that will be for Brooke, since she is usually our tag-a-long kid.
2. Ice skating with friends :)
What I Read in December:
Not counting the Goosebumps books that I read with Cam, I read 21 books last year. In December, I read The River is Waiting by Wally Lamb. This is the same author as one my favorite books of all-time, She's Come Undone, so I had high expectations. Overall, not bad, but I was a bit disappointed.
What I'm Loving Lately:
Brian's 2026 goal is to wake up early....like really early. The main side effect of this goal has been that I am the one actually waking up early when his alarm goes off. I'm annoyed and angered at his goal because I was already an early riser and had zero desire to wake up even earlier, but the interesting twist is that it has actually helped with my 2025 goal of having more structured days, lol! Ever since I've been getting up an hour earlier, I've noticed I am doing things at much more consistent times during the day. I've been reading a lot more in the mornings, taking Brooke to day care first, then walking Cam to school, and then going to the gym in the afternoons. Who knew Brian's goal would be the solution I needed to achieve my 2025 goal of a more consistent routine?!
Goals for January
1. Take my Lululemon track pants to tailor to be hemmed (I did this today!)
2. Finish Cam and Brooke's baby books (a carryover from 2025)
3. Renew passport
4. Work on compiling/writing down/testing family recipes for my recipe binder. I spent some time at my mom's house getting copies of the family recipes I knew I wanted. Now I just need a couple from my aunt, and I also want to test a few because my mom had scribbled notes and tweaks on the margins of several recipes, so I want to be sure I am getting them right.
