Update on Otis

Brian and I were in Vegas last week (no Prince Harry sighting, in case you were wondering).

We left Otis with my parents to hang out with the World's Greatest Dog (ie. Colby). I'm a little biased but these two dogs are the best ever.

Unfortunately Otis got a bad case of Cherry Eye, which is common in bulldogs. Needless to say, I had a slight panic attack when I realized Otis' suffering. And by "slight panic attack" I mean full-blown meltdown. His eyes looked HORRIBLE. I thought for sure he might end up losing his vision or having permanent damage to his eyes.

Luckily, after an emergency trip to the vet, we have been given antibiotic eye drops and our vet has assured us that Otis is okay and his eyes will ultimately be fine.

I didn't realize how much I would miss him over the weekend! I've been so happy that I've gotten to spend a lot of time with him this week.

Otis now weighs 25 lbs (he will probably get up to 60 lbs full grown). He has an appetite unlike any dog I have ever seen!

It's no longer easy to carry him around. It's soon gonna look something like this.....

(That's some pro football player and his bullddog "Riggs." Thank you Google Image.)

His underbite is getting very pronounced, so I have a feeling his teeth will soon look like this:

(In the words of Brian's dad, it's a face only a mother can love!)

And recently, maybe due to the underbite, he is starting to stick his tongue out when he sleeps. It is so adorable, and pretty characteristic of bulldogs I think.

I melt everytime.

Alright, now I know those pictures aren't of Otis per se, but I will try really hard to get some good pictures of him this weekend so you can see how much he has grown.

Also, Otis lifted his leg to pee this morning! This is a huge milestone in his life. (Don't pretend not to care).

What happened to my sweet little darling baby??????

A Little Baking

Although I've slowed down a bit on the baking, I'm still getting quite a few requests for cakes and cookies here lately.

Just wanted to share some of my most recent creations.

Tonight I'm making "You're a Rock Star" theme cupcakes and cookies for a co-worker. So far they are looking really cute.

Stay tuned for pictures!

Some People Might Think I Have Too Much Time On My Hands

And those people would be right.

When we first got Otis, I joined Bulldog's World. It's an internet community for bulldog lovers to come together to talk about their dogs, ask questions, and post pictures on a forum. We quickly learned that there are some humorous people that are obsessed with their dogs on the site. Brian and I get a good laugh when we read some of the posts.

Of course if you know me, then you know I had to get creative and participate in these quirky dog posts.

So I came up with Otis the Beggar.

Otis the Beggar is a dog photo series that will occur every time I have an extra cardboard box lying around the house.

I hope my weirdness provides a little entertainment for you today. :-)

Do it Anyway

In the wake of the Chick-fil-a Saga (LOL at "Chick-fil-a Saga"), I thought of this poem. Because really, when you get to the end of your life, you're not answering to the mayor of Chicago, to the creator of the Muppets, or to the American people.

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.
Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere, people may deceive you.
Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating others could destroy overnight.
Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today will often be forgotten.
Do good anyway.
Give the best you have and it will never be enough.
 Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.
It was never between you and them anyway.

Wedding Weekend

I'm sitting on our little patio while typing this blog. I am thrilled to announce that a hummingbird has finally discovered my feeder! I have my iPhone camera ready to snap a picture if the hummingbird returns.

I had a fun and exhausting weekend! One of my best friends, Marykathryn, got married on Saturday and I was one of her bridesmaids. Fortunately I remembered to tell Brian to grab the camera, and we got some pretty nice pictures.

Take a look...

One of my favorite stories that was told this weekend was about the moment Kat finally decided on her wedding dress. If you know Marykathryn, you know she is the quite the tomboy. Apparently when she decided that the dress she had on was The One, she just looked at the saleswoman and announced "it'll do." Kat completely confused the consultant (who must be used to girls saying "yes" to the dress), and the lady was like "um, I don't understand what you mean." Kat then reiterated "it will do."

...And that is a prime example of why we are such good friends!

Congrats Kat & Blake. done got hitched! ;-)
