Weekend in Denver

During our January Articles Club retreat, my friend Stacy asked us all this question:

"What is your bucket list concert?"

My answer was seeing The Avett Brothers at Red Rocks amphitheater.

So, I made it happen.

I looked up the dates they were playing and bought tickets right when they went on sale. They do three shows in a row at Red Rocks every July and the tickets sell out immediately, so I was prepared. I splurged a little for the VIP tickets with good seats. Brian and I have seen the Avett Brothers play on several other occasions, so he wasn't too hyped, but I absolutely love the band and wanted to see them at this specific venue. Brian came along because he had no choice, but he was generally happy to support making my bucket list concert dreams come true. :)

We stayed in a condo downtown with great views overlooking the city. Our Airbnb condo was right beside Union Station, so we took the train directly into downtown from the airport, which was really easy and also free!

We arrived Saturday evening, dropped our stuff at the condo, and headed straight to Corrine for a fancy late-night dinner date.

On Sunday, we had coffee at a nearby cafe then headed to Meow Wolf Convergence Station, which is an eclectic, interactive art museum. Brian thought it was pretty good, but I was disappointed in that it was very expensive ($55/ticket) and...weird.

After that, we walked to lunch at Tupelo Honey (our best meal and drinks of the trip!) and then chilled for a couple of hours at the condo. I went to the rooftop pool and finished reading the book I had started on the plane.

For the concert that night, I had made reservations for the Shuttle to Red Rocks from the Thirsty Lion Pub in downtown Denver near our condo. So we headed there, had some drinks and appetizers, and then went to the show! I thought the concert and venue were great, but maybe didn't quite live up to my very high expectations. They didn't play a couple of my favorite songs and played a few covers that I didn't know, but it was very good and I am so glad I can now mark it off of my travel/concert list!

Overall, this turned out to be a fun trip! It was the perfect amount of time (2 nights, 3 days) to spend downtown and we had perfect weather and only minor flight delays. I would visit downtown Denver again in a heartbeat and loved the city's vibe. It was a perfect getaway as a couple, but I also saw a lot of family-friendly activities I want to do when I was planning this trip, so maybe next time we'll have to come back with Cam. Although traveling just the two of us is pretty easy and stress-free, so we'll see. :)
