Smart or Crazy? Hard to Say.

For the record, dogs can detect sounds as low as 16 Hz and as high as 100,000 Hz. Humans can only hear up to 20,000 Hz in comparison.

Actually, I found that information on a unreliable website, but it sounds about right. Which is why, for five days, I was convinced that Colby knew something we didn't.

Something was in the drawer of our entertainment center.

Be it a mouse.
An ant.
Or a dust bunny.

The world may never know.

But Colby knows....

Hey you, with your opposable thumbs....Come open this drawer, will ya?

So it appears to be empty, eh?

You don't believe me, do you?

Fine. I'll just go sleep away my troubles.

Sure to be a Mouthful

I don't think I've ever had this much fun in the kitchen....

The whole process was long and hard...but the outcome was extremely gratifying.

The bachelorette really loved her cake (I think). She had just the tip.

This cake really was the whole package...

Not only did it look great, it tasted great too!

(Apologies to my audience for the slightly crude humor. Mom and Dad, you're probably rolling your eyes and shaking your head in disappointment. My public school education--it ruined me.)

Alright, Already...the Show Goes On.

Finished up Organic Chemistry last week and the DAT exam on Monday.

I was fairly pleased with the outcome. Now my only task is filling out supplemental applications and sending more money ("processing fees") to a few of the schools.

When it came time to submit my ADEA application and select my dental school destinations, I had a brief moment of panic and decided to completely reevaluate my school selections. That said, I ended up applying to the following dental schools:

UNC  (Chapel Hill, NC)
East Carolina University (Greenville, NC)
Marquette University (Wisconsin)
University of Colorado (Denver)
Lake Erie College of Medicine (Florida)....Kinda far from Lake Erie, eh?
University of Kentucky (Lexington)
University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania)

Now all I have to do is wait to hear back. And if I do get accepted, well, then I have a lot to look forward to.....

More schooling, more classes, more money. Sounds....great.
I've never been opposed to marrying a dentist rather than becoming a dentist myself. Just sayin'.

So in the meantime, while I apply and wait, I will be mostly working and job shadowing dentists.
I'll be vacationing.
I'll also be trying to figure out exactly how to pronounce "macaron." See my extremely unhelpful post below on the correct pronunciation of the word.

Oh, and I bought a starfish last weekend.
I saw him at the Fish Room when Brian and I were perusing. It was one of those "I shall call him Squishy, and he shall be mine, and he shall be my Squishy" love-at-first-sight moments.
Soon after we brought him home, he decided to crawl up the side of the tank. When this happened, he may or may not have seen the dead starfish we have mounted on the wall beside the fish tank.

Moments later, he decided to bury himself in the sand and we haven't seen him since.

Alright, be on the lookout for some more blog changes and new posts this week. I finally have free time and it's glorious.

Happy Wednesday!

Excitement is Brewing

Today I had my last Organic Chemistry II class! We have a review session tomorrow and our final exam on Thursday! I couldn't be happier!

Since this is my last pre-requiste course, that means no more long hikes to/from campus, no more endless hours spent studying, and no more panic attacks over my grades.

I started classes at UNC on August 30th of last year. Most days it feels like a lifetime ago.

After I take the DAT exam on Monday, I have about six weeks of reality-escaping before I go back to working at BB&T.

Is it sad that I am most excited about finally having time to read! Reading? Really?!
Yep. That's what I'm most looking forward to.

I am also looking forward to the following:
Cooking
Traveling
Cake Decorating classes
Blogging
Scrapbooking
and all the many things that school has kept me away from!

A few more days to go, but my mind is already at the pool...with a book...and a cold beverage.

Bachelorette Beach Weekend

My friend Erin celebrated her bachelorette party at the beach this past weekend! We had fun lounging on the beach, playing games, and showering her with gifts of lingerie!

I made her a very special cake, as well. More to come on that later!

Thought I definitely came home with stories, photos will be all that I am sharing due to the fact that I am busy wrapping up my Organic Chemistry class this week.

The Word Shaker

Since I'm past due for a philosophical blog post....

This month's book club selection was The Book Thief  by Markus Zusak.

Today, as I did some last minute planning for our meeting tonight at Guglhupf, I re-read one of the short stories in the book, titled "The Word Shaker." The story is about the power of words.

In a psychology class, I remember once proposing a "chicken and egg" type question to my peers: Is it possible to think if you don't know any words?

I argued that it was not possible to think without words, but everyone disputed me, claiming that yes it is possible to think if you don't know any words.

I challenged them all to have a thought--any thought!--without using words to have that thought.

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing they all failed at this task. It's also highly likely that they were thinking these three words: "Kelly is weird".

What's Happening this Month

I'm officially deeming July as the busiest month of this year.

I was all set to write my "July Goals" today, but then I realized we are almost two weeks in. All goals have now been abandoned.

In the past two weeks, I have taken two organic chemistry exams, finished my book club book, worked on my dental application, celebrated the Fourth, baked some goodies, and gotten my head examined.

Ok, I actually got my body examined, but I'm pretty sure a head examination would've proved more beneficial. Something ain't right in there.

In the coming weeks, I've got a bachelorette vacation at the beach, a organic final, a dental admissions test, a wedding, a birthday, and a two year anniversary date with my sweetheart (which may or may not resemble our typical biweekly dates to El Rodeo).

Here is my sweetheart:

Here's the crew of guys (plus me!) at the pool last weekend:

Here is the fireworks spectacular:

All for now. Happy Monday! :-)

Anxiety Attack

Apologies for the recent blog hiatus. I can only stretch myself so thin, and lately my life has been the equivalent of a train wreck.

As I tossed and turned last night with a tummy ache, I had so many things weighing on my mind. One of the many things was the fact that TODAY I will be heading to the doctor for an appointment. No serious medical concerns, but I just feel like I need somebody to tell me I'm okay--that I'm perfectly healthy and not dying.

Last night, I wanted to blame the tummy ache on my nerves, which have lately been shot.
Or on the chicken piccata I ate for dinner.
But perhaps it is the doctor's appointment that has me in knots.
I dread the doctor.
Like, seriously....dread the doctor.

Please refer to one of my first blog posts ever, way back in 2009 when I began writing my blog.
I think it paints a pretty clear picture of why I despise the doctor, and why I may or may not be suffering from an anxiety attack.
