Guest Bathroom Refresh

This is going to be a brief, but photo-heavy post.

Back in March, we had some mold on the ceiling of our master bathroom. Our contractor (and friend) Chris came over to look at the repair and what it would entail. I'll share the updated master bath in a separate post, but long story short, as Chris was leaving that afternoon, he mentioned I could take the opportunity to paint the master bathroom a different color, since he would need to repaint after the mold repair.

"I'm fine with the current color of the master bathroom," I told him. "But would you be able to paint our guest bathroom a different color for me?"

Chris was like "Um, sure," as we walked from the master bathroom across the house to the guest bathroom.

"And I have some other ideas in here, too..."

Later that day I texted Brian that Chris was going to paint our guest bathroom, install new lighting, and hang a new mirror for me.

Brian was rightfully confused as how Chris coming over to address the mold issue in the master bathroom resulted in renovations of our guest bathroom.

I have no good explanation, but I will say that I have spent every night for the past 18 months sitting on a stool beside the bathtub in our guest bathroom giving Brooke a bath, and the paint color was feeling a bit blah to me.

I wanted to go dark.

I asked Brian his opinion.

"The room is too small. Don't go dark."

I didn't love that answer, so I asked my friend Lisa, an interior design pro whose house I love.

"If you want to go dark, I suggest going one shade lighter than what you think you want."

I must not have loved that answer either, because I looked at the paint swatch of the color I wanted, and then I went one shade darker.

I present to you our new Sherwin-Williams Jade green bathroom:

Here are some before and after pics:

I ordered a new light fixture with a contemporary design. I loved it, but when Chris went to install it, turns out the electrical wiring is positioned above the sink instead of in the center of the vanity. This presented a problem, and is the reason the current light fixture had to stay. It covers up the electrical box area in the wall above the sink. Unfortunately I had to return the light I ordered and keep the current fixture, but overall, I still love it.

I also didn't intend to order a farmhouse-style mirror. I ordered the mirror from Lowes thinking it was a sleek wooden frame, but then it arrived at our house weighing 5,000 pounds and gives off rustic farmhouse vibes.

Once Chris hung it up, I surprisingly loved it. It was not the look I was originally going for, but it looks great nonetheless. And because it's huge, it makes the bathroom feel larger.

This was the original mirror:

The original mirror pictured above made the dark green walls stand out more. I considered keeping the mirror and the light the same, but I had accidently burned the edge of the mirror with a candle several years ago. You can't see it in the above picture, but it's damaged on the edge above the sink. Brian agreed with me to replace the mirror with the large farmhouse-style one after we went back and forth on trying to make a decision.

Cam enjoyed giving a lot of decorating advice throughout this whole process. I decided not to go with his paint color choice, but he strongly advocated for Synergy:

Here you can see where the electrical box is located and why my beloved new light fixture didn't work out:

Overall, I must say I am VERY pleased. We aren't completely done, as I do want to add some more framed artwork to the walls. The original modern design idea I had for this bathroom had to shift, but I do love the new look and look forward to making some final touches over the next few months.

As with everything (and everyone!) in our house....

IT'S A WORK IN PROGRESS! :)
