Monday - 4 more days
It's Monday evening - four days until I get married.
I'm going to go ahead and start posting on this new blog, even though I have yet to share the web address with anyone.
I thought it would be nice to start documenting some thoughts, emotions, and stories so that I can remember this special time in my life. I also wanted to share with my friend and family some of the highlights and events that have been happening recently. In regards to getting married, I want to start with a Q & A session.
I'll ask the question and then I'll answer my question. :-)
Why elope?
I am untraditional. I don't particularly love weddings. For me, it would have been a waste of money. Whether you are married in a courthouse or have a lavish party, the end result is the same - you are married. I prefer simple and low key.
My wedding planning took a total of 90 minutes. I started planning it 2 weeks beforehand, which involved calling Sleepy Hollow Bed & Breakfast and sending them a check. Why elope?...why NOT elope?
Best decision ever.
Who knew you were eloping?
Well, it's hard for me to keep a secret. Plus, I have a tendency to drink multiple glasses of wine. The combination of those two things? A loud mouth.
I told my parents, Brian's parents, and anyone who happened to be around me between the hours of 9-11pm on Friday or Saturday night for the past two months....
Are you excited?
Honestly, I really don't think about getting married even though it's only a few days away. I think it's because I haven't spent much time and energy on planning a wedding. I can look forward to the weekend without much stress; however, it does feel a bit weird to act nonchalant about a huge life milestone. Excited? Yes.
Are you going to take cheesy pictures?
Probably. I will try to make this weekend as cheesy as possible for everyone's enjoyment.
When did you know you would marry Brian?
I remember telling my sister about the moment I first met Brian back in 2007, and I described it as a "strange feeling." I think that strange feeling must be the feeling you get when you are meeting your future husband. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. We didn't start dating until a couple years later, but I've always had a gut feeling we would end up together.
What are you most looking forward to about married life?
People can finally stop asking me "When are you and Brian gonna get married?" :-)
Also, I am looking forward to experiencing the different phases of life and seeing how we grow and change together.
What are you most looking forward to about the weekend?
We're staying in an awesome cabin. I'm looking forward to a weekend to relax and unwind, and get away from our currently stressful life (We are in the process of buying a house, renting our condo and getting a property manager, and we are both busy at work). It's been a crazy few weeks!
If you could change anything about your relationship over the past few years, what would you change?
Less talking, more listening.
What is the #1 lesson you have learned from your parents' marriage?
The importance of good communication.
What do you envision for your married life?
I hope for good health and happiness, and that we'll still be best friends at the end of our lives. Faith in God, financial stability, wise investments, good decisions, successful careers, two kids, and always a Bulldog and a Border Collie.
What's your favorite memory of you and Brian?
Ahhh - too many. Probably trips to the Florida Keys (minus the rental car disasters). Also getting our puppy Otis and being excited over everything he does. He's such a sweet dog.
